Description
Decended from ancient primitive dogs of the ancient people of Japan. It was bred to hunt small wild game, boar, and bear. Powerful and fierce because of its small stature to accomplish these feats. The name means brushwood in Japanese, the areas it hunted in. They were almost extinct after WWII, due to heavy bombing of Japan. The survivor is what we have today. From 13 1/2 to 16 1/2 inches tall at the shoulder and 17-23 pounds. Today is bird / and small game hunter, and family pet. Needs regular exercise, not an apartment type dog.
