Description
Photography - Walk bridge over Monet's water garden. Most people are unaware of Monet's two ornamental gardens - Clos Normand, and English -style flower garden. He encouraged fellow impressionist painters as Auguste Renoir, Paul Cezanne, and Gustave Caillebotte to visit. GeorgesTruffaut a botanist , soil scientist, and nurseryman advised Monet where to plant , how to locate plants , and how to grow them. Monet grew the flower garden to enable him to be a better painter learning from his flowers. Arranged in color , size etc. emulated various brush strokes. Renoir did similar in south of France to assist his painting. Done in 1883 in Giverny, near Vernon. The restoration of Monet's garden through the remarkable energies of Gerald van der Kemp and his wife, Florence, has helped shed more light on Monet's planting philosophy. He loved roses and sourced some from Pennsylvania. He used nurseries in France, Holland, England, and Japan. At least one American nursery Conrad and Jones among his sources. His painting Bend In The River Epte (1888) was sometimes referred to as an example of Pointillism, but in fact Monet disliked it and said their are no points in nature.
